Every Chinese New Year, the street in BInondo Manila Philippines, also known as the Chinatown in the Philippines is always filled with people just to experience the spirit of this celebration. Majority of the people wear red shirts because it signifies luck and fortune as new year begins. Chinese restaurants, groceries and bakeries are busy during this day just to accommodate the people. People would fall in line outside the stores and restaurants and took several minutes just to get inside.Chinese parades are everywhere showcasing the dragon dance . The main highlight of this event is that FIlipinos would buy Tikoy(Nian Gao).Tikoy is sticky. Household in the Philippines served tikoy by frying it. Unlike in China specifically in city in Chonqing, they served it mixing it with soup. Tikoy is a Chinese delicacy comes in different flavors such as plain white/brown ube and pandan. In the Philippines, christmas is the happiest season of the year. It only happens once a year, we can feel the love and happiness of our loved ones and our friends. We exchange Christmas cards and presents, we gather around the Christmas tree and sing Christmas songs. Despite difficult circumstances, people help each other. I always listen to ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID but I find this song very meaningful. The tune and the beat is very catchy. :)
